My baby keeps breaking out from her swaddle and would not settle or sleep?

My 2.5 month old breastfed baby girl is breaking out of her swaddle. When I use the blanket-like sheet to swaddle her she stretches, kicks and cries that she is uncomfortable. And when I use a baby wrap that you can buy from the shops she kicks so much that she breaks out from her swaddle where her legs are. And when she either breaks out from her swaddle or when I don’t swaddle her at all where her legs are she cries and cries and does not settle or sleep. Does anyone know why? Am I doing something wrong? I don’t know how to make her comfortable. Swaddling her she gets uncomfortable and breaks from the swaddle and not swaddling her she would not settle and sleep. This has been recent.. like 3 days so far

Well– it sounds like when she is not swaddled that she startles herself awake- that’s where the additional crying usually comes from. If you want to keep swaddling her, try a blanket with a tiny bit of stretch and a lot of material. The Aden and Anais muslin blankets are great for this. Big and thin is definitely helpful though. My new one was like Houdini but with a hair-trigger Moro reflex– she had to be swaddled within an inch of her life to sleep. Try pinning her arms across her hips– hands on opposite hips before wrapping. Get the wrap very narrow at the feet. This should keep her from inching her hands out or kicking her feet loose. If she’s in a bassinet, you then fold another blanket in half and tuck it over her and under each side of the mattress. If you’re already doing this… well… there’s co-sleeping. That’s what works long term for us and has with each kid…
