Christening Gowns for Celebrity and Royal Babies
Your baby is a true star and a real prince (or princess) in your eyes. You want to find the perfect christening outfit for your precious little one. Aren’t you a little curious though about what celebrity babies and royal babies wear for their christening? Let’s look back at a few celebrities and royals and see how they dressed their babies for that special day.
Celebrity Babies
. Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady – Baby Benjamin – Christened June 22, 2010
Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady had their 6-month old son, Benjamin, christened at a Catholic Church in Santa Monica. Benjamin wore a white suit for his christening. Many parents are now choosing suits or romper sets as boys’ christening outfits.
. Layla Kayleigh and Steve Covino – Baby Melody Rain – Christened May, 2010
‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ co-host, Layla Kayleigh, and Steve Covino, had their six-month-old daughter, Melody Rain, christened at Townley Church in New Jersey. Melody wore a lovely, elaborate gown with exquisite lace, ribbon, and floral accents. Delicate details can add unbelievable style and elegance to a christening gown.
. Rachel Griffiths – Baby Clementine Grace – Christened January 7, 2010
Rachel’s six-month-old daughter, Clementine Grace, was christened at St. Kilda Sacred Heart Mission Church. Clementine Grace wore a gown made by Rachel’s great-grandmother in 1920 — and worn by the actress at her own baptism. Nothing can take the place of an heirloom dress at a christening.
. Elin and Tiger Woods – Baby Sam – Christened October, 2007
Sam, daughter of Sam and Elin Woods, was christened in Sweden in a gym that was transformed to suit the occasion. Sam wore a pink baptism gown. Color in christening gowns (either the dress itself or as an accent) is showing up more and more in christening outfits.

‘Desperate Housewives’ starMarcia Cross and stockbroker husband, Tom Mahoney, had their fraternal twin girls christened on Father’s Day, 2007, in Santa Barbara, California. The Baptism ceremony for the four-month-old girls was held at the Trinity Episcopal Church. The twins wore identical white christening gowns.
Royal Babies
. Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex – Baby Viscount Severn – Christened April 19, 2008
James, Viscount Severn (James Alexander Philip Theo – born December 17, 2007), is a member of the British Royal Family (the second child and only son of Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex). The christening took place at a private chapel in Windsor. The christening gown, worn by Viscount Severn, was a hand-made replica of the christening gown worn by Queen Victoria’s daughter. The original gown had been worn at other royal christenings but has now been preserved. The Queen commissioned the replica gown.
. Princess Märtha Louise and Ari Behn – Baby Maud Angelica Behn – Christened July 2, 2003.
A Norwegian royal baby, Maud Angelica was christened at the Royal Chapel, Oslo. Maud Angelica wore the traditional royal Norwegian christening robe handmade by Princess Ingeborg of Sweden in 1920. The first child to wear it was Prince Georg of Denmark (son of Princess Margaretha, Princess Ingeborg’s oldest daughter). Since then, the christening gown has been worn by most of Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Märtha’s descendants. The names of all the wearers have been sewn onto it.
. Princess Alexandra zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Count Jefferson-Friedrich von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth
– Baby Count Friedrich Richard Oscar Jefferson von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth – Christened December 18, 1999
A Danish royal baby, Count Richard was christened at the Chapel of Berleburg Castle in Copenhagen. Count Richard’s christening robe was designed by Princess Alexandra and made by Anthea Moore Ede of London. The gown was made of French organza with lace from Princess Benedikte, which originally came from her grandmother, Queen Alexandrine of Denmark.
. HRH Doña Elena, Infanta of Spain and Duchess of Lugo and Don Jaime de Marichalar Saeñz y Tejada, Duke of Lugo
- Felipe Juan Froilan de Todos los Santos de Marichalar y de Borbon – Christened October 4th, 1998
A Spanish royal, Foilan was christened at the Royal Chapel at the palace of La Zarzuela, Madrid. As is tradition, Foilan wore the same christening gown used by every member of the Spanish Royal Family since King Juan Carlos.
