Quilt Throw

can’t throw it away (re: deceased pet)?
When my best girl died in 1997, after she was “put to sleep”in the vet’s office, I wrapped her in a blanket and we took her to a pet cemetary like place. I drove and my mother held her wrapped in the blanket. She was truly my best girl. I have saved the blanket and even used it. It has gotten so thin now, you can see through it and it is defintely not something you would use if you were looking for a serious blanket. And yet I keep it. It is on top of my closet. Every now and then I take it down and use it but like I said, it is falling apart in so many ways. All of the stuffing has come out of it (it was a quilt) and so I just have the lining. I have said to myself “get it together, throw it out, be practical, this was a long time ago and now the blanket is taking up space) and part of me says that it was the last thing I had that held my girl. Who I will never forget nor do I want to. I need some feedback about what to do with the blanket. What is your opinion? Thank you.
I would save a piece of it. My son had a parakeet that passed away. The sheet that he used to cover the cage, he took it to school and made a nice lap warmer out of it in the sewing class he had to take. It is a reminder of the pet and now is a treasured reminder of his beloved pet.
