Dogs are adorable little creatures when they are well taken care off. However, their physical appearance can drastically change once they are infected with certain types of skin infection. Skin infection in dogs is just as serious as skin infection in humans. Your pet dogs can also suffer from skin problems such as oily or dry skin. Once they have these infections, it should never be taken lightly. It is serious condition that requires the veterinarian’s attention and can be treated with prescription meds and some dietary changes.

Skin infection in your pet dogs may be caused by the same factors as with humans. It can either be caused by certain allergies or external and internal factors. We may not be aware of it but hypothyroidism is quite common among dogs which also results to some skin infection in the long run. Dogs that have fleas and ticks may also develop skin infections in the long run due to excessive scratching of the area. Other causes of skin infection for your pet dogs are the food they eat.

Dogs too have quite a delicate body system which can easily catch certain diseases and infection especially when they get it from the food they ingest. Some types Food that can easily trigger skin infection among dogs are dairy products, beef, wheat, corn and the like. Once your pet dogs start itching excessively after ingesting these types of food, it is a sure sign of a skin infection. You should immediately bring this issue to your veterinarian.

As mentioned above, there are some various ways of treating skin infection in your pet dogs. The first option is prescription medication given by the veterinarian. Oral medications may be given, but usually they prescribe topical medications such as anti bacterial ointments and creams to help treat the disease faster. Another treatment option, or as an adjunct treatment to the prescribed medication, is the change in the dietary intake of your pet dogs.

A change in diet means eliminating those that can trigger the infection. Dietary changes can also prevent the further occurrence of other types of skin infection in the future. You can collaborate with your vet so you can come up with a new and healthier diet plan for your dog. Whatever treatment option your vet may prescribe, you should make it a point to follow it properly. This is because if you leave the disease untreated, your dog may suffer tremendously as the infection progresses. You should also keep in mind that complete cure for skin infection in your pet dogs will not come in a few hours or days. Usually, it will take a few weeks or even years depending on how your dog will respond to the treatment.
