Cities & Knights of Catan – 5 differences from the original

The Cities & Knights of Catan expansion differs from the original Settlers of Catan board game in 5 key areas. While the original settlers is a great game to play Cities & Knights adds to the gameplay tremendously.

1. Rules

One of the biggest differences between the Cities & Knights expansion and the original settlers is the addition of rules. While the base version had few rules the expansion adds a number of rules to the game. This ends up giving the player more options to choose from as they progress through the game.

2. Components

The components of the expansion are high quality. This includes the wood bits, the high quality card stock, and the tokens. The Cities & Knights box even has room to put the orignal parts in so everything fits in one box.

3. Playability

With the addition of knights and barbarians there’s an added level of tactical play to the game. Add to this gathing of resources and commodites, knights protecting roads or fending off barbarians, and how your opponents play the game and you’re in for an exciting game.

4. Fun Factor

This game adds a fun factor that’s even better than the original. With the addition of the knights comes the added challenge of guarding roads and barbarians. Add to this the challenge of constructing cities near resources and the challenge of playing against other players makes Cities & Knights of Catan a fun game to play.

5. Should I purchase?

If you liked the original Settlers of Catan, Cities & Knights of Catan is a great expansion to start with. The added components add a level of strategy and fun not found in the original with the quality you have come to expect.
