I need help with my puppy!?
I just got a coppernose beagle puppy who will be 12 weeks old. She followed me around and licked me and never left my side for the first week we had her. We’ve had her for a week and for the last few days she bites, nips, won’t listen to “no”, only comes to her name when she’s in a different room, doesn’t really pay attention, won’t listen to “sit”, only does the command when she is hungry and i have doggie snacks, etc. I don’t think she respects me, and I don’t know what to do. I can’t teach her any commands because she doesn’t pay attention to me (or won’t pay attention for long). Can someone help me? I’m leaving for a week to go to Disney World with my dad and my mom is going to watch her. I’m 14 and I need some advice in training my puppy!
She shouldn’t be afraid of me because I don’t hit her, I only use “no” and I put her in her kennel for a few minutes when she is biting too much. (I hope I didn’t forget anything else =])
Well, I can only speculate, but it sounds like she doesn’t have any respect for you. Like most new puppies, she’s probably been doted-on every waking minute. This makes a dog feel like you are their subordinate and they are the leader of the pack. Try reading some things on asserting your pack leadership (Cesar Milan is a good one for this) and see if she starts paying attention to you.
