Harvest Moon
Chenille dotted foothills
Boast more gold
Than green;
Summer sinks into the leaves
This first day of Fall.
Harvest toil
Sweats under scorching sun;
Its dust hovers in clouds
Above the valley.
It’s only the harvest moon
That waits
For first frost,
And chilly nights.
Short but well harvested poem. Simple but beautiful imagery crafted in few words. There is a nostalgic moon waiting for the chenille dotted foothills turning chilly.
The food bowl and the industrious farmer hidden in the ‘harvest toil’, the symbolic summer leaves, green gold, all make a feast of a great scenery.
