Should I get a DVI cable for my digital monitor?
MY new PC’s video card and my monitor have a DVI connection. But the PC came with an analog cable for my monitor. Should I get a DVI cable? Would the DVI cable reduce the workload on the video card because the card wouldn’t have to convert the signals from digital to analog as it does now?
Yes you should go with the DVI cable because it’s going to give you a much clearer picture for the reason you’ve already stated. The signal stays digital and does not go through any conversion/compression. The later often leads to data loss and of course results in a poorer picture.
While technically not having to convert digital to analog will reduce your video cards workload, it won’t be anything noticable and wouldn’t be enough alone to justify switching to DVI.
