Cupcakes Cake

Anyone have a simple recipe for a cake, or cupcakes?
My gfs b-day was today and i got her a present but i also wanted to bake her a cake or cupcakes that i can give her. All i need is a simple recipe
(i prefer if its for a vanilla cake
thats the thing i wanna start from scratch because i wanna show her that i can bake other than just the box stuff
Best way is to buy a box mix, but if you want to make it from “scratch” here’s a great recipe.
Vanilla Cake
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 cup milk
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 cup nuts, ground (optional)
Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs and beat. Add flour, milk and baking powder. Add vanilla and nuts. Place in greased and floured pan. Bake at 350 degrees until top of cake springs back when touched (about 30 minutes).
Buttercream Frosting
6 tablespoons butter, softened (no substitutions)
3 tablespoons whipping cream, unwhipped (35%)
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups confectioners’ sugar
food coloring (optional)
In a bowl, beat together the butter, whipping cream and vanilla until smooth (about 3 minutes). Add in confectioners sugar; beat very well until smooth, adding more if necessary to achieve desired consistency.
Note: In order for the icing to have a creamy texture, only whipping cream must be used.
