Just as the name suggest cotton dress shirt means that the shirt is constructed by cotton. Cotton dress shirts are usually recommended when the wearer will be prone to more heat and perspiration than usual, though it can be worn at any time of the year. It allows proper ventilation inside the dress shirt because of the way that is woven. Air naturally flows in and out the small spaces between the intersecting warps and wefts. A little known fact about starching a cotton dress shirt: having the dry cleaners put starch on your dress shirts may make them look very nice and sharp, but the starch actually causes the shirt to shrink! If it is the kind of dress shirt you button the collar and wear with a tie, the collar will become tighter and tighter after each starching you have done to it. You can use this to your advantage if you have a cotton dress shirt that is a little too large in the collar for you.
