Cot Blanket

How can I put my baby to sleep now that she has learnt how to sit on her own?
My 8 month old daughter just learnt how to go from laying down to sitting position on her own, and now whenever I put her down to sleep, she would turn around and sit, calling me to pick her up. So far I just had to place her on the cot, even if she was still awake and she would stay until fall sleep. I have tried covering her with the blanket, but she just kicks it off.
Sooner or later if you just leave her alone in the crib she will get tired of sitting up and just lay down and fall asleep on her own.
