Child Pet

If you had pets and a child with a mild pet allergy, what would you do?
Mild allergy meaning stuffy nose, eyes a little red, etc, not life threatening (I think we all know what we would do if our child’s life was in danger).
Would you get rid of your pet or keep your house as clean as possible and your pet as isolated as possible from your child?
Btw…our daughter doesn’t have allergies. I was just thinking about what we would do if she did, and wondered if anyone else has ever thought about this too.
It would be very hard. I do get attached to my pets. But I would probably end up giving my kid allergy medicine and keeping the house as clean as possible while looking for a new home for my pets. If I couldn’t find a suitable home – I guess we would just keep our pet. But it really isn’t fair to isolate one family member from another. And that’s exactly what I would be doing if I tried to keep my kid away from the pet.
Of course, I would check out all other possible causes of allergies first. If it turned out my kid was allergic to the puppy and to pollen, I’d just make her take allergy medicine every day. But if it was only the pets – they’d have to go. Over time a “mild” allergy can become severe. (Which I learned by experience when my grandmother woke me up one morning and I could barely breathe!)
To what sonic said – I was just thinking the exact same thing. But the chances of one child being allergic to another are extremely low. Of course I wouldn’t get rid of my child, but I have a feeling that one of my kids would constantly have to be taking medicine if that happened. And I am not fond of constantly taking meds. … To me, the difference between children and pets is small. But kids do outrank pets, no questions asked.

Pete’s Dragon [VHS] $4.49 Disney loved to mix live action with animation (Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks), but this 1977 effort falls on its face. The turn-of-the-century story concerns an orphaned boy whose only friend is a cartoon monster. While the latter is entertainingly rendered, the rest of the film strains to be enchanting and the cast overreaches in a big way. Not for anybody over the age of ten. –Tom Keo… |
